The main USPS customer service number is 1-800-ASK-USPS, which is 1-800-275-8777. For tracking specifically, call 1-800-222-1811. Both lines are open Mon–Fri 8am–8:30pm ET and Sat 8am–6pm ET.
Call 1-800-275-8777, press or say your language, then say "customer service" or "representative." If the menu loops, staying silent or pressing 0 often routes you to an agent. Calling early on a weekday morning gives the shortest wait.
Enter your tracking number at USPS.com, sign up for free Informed Delivery, or call the automated tracking line at 1-800-222-1811. Have the full tracking number ready — it is on your receipt or shipping confirmation email.
First track it online. If it has not moved for several days, submit a free Missing Mail Search Request at USPS.com (usually available 7 business days after mailing). If the item was insured, you can also file an insurance claim online.
Schedule a free USPS Hold Mail request at USPS.com (or at your local post office) for 3–30 days. Set it up by 2:00 AM ET on the start date. Your carrier holds your mail and delivers it when the hold ends.
If you missed a delivery, use the "Redelivery" tool at USPS.com and enter the barcode from the notice slip the carrier left. You can pick a redelivery date or choose to collect the item at your local post office.
Many post offices accept passport applications by appointment and take passport photos, but the US Department of State issues the passport. Book a passport appointment through the scheduler at USPS.com.
